Definition: Rectus Abdominis    Part of the torso, the rectus absominis is located at the inferior end of the sternum and cartilage of the ribcage.  It originates at the pubic arch of the pelvis.  It is responsible for allowing the body to tilt the ribcage forwards and backwards.
